10 Minute Yoga: Hamstrings

Nov 5, 2008

Maximize your flexibility with a whole body warm up

Intro_2_1.jpg
Hamstrings are like the Rodney Dangerfield of muscles – they don’t get any respect. But we wouldn’t be able to walk, run or jump without these underestimated but important tendons. Show them some love with this 10-minute practice that will strengthen and stretch tight hamstrings, properly aligning your body and giving you the increased flexibility you to need to play sports or effortlessly glide into Downward Dog. But that’s not all. Strong hamstrings not only improve your posture, making you look taller and leaner, but they also help shape the look of your entire lower body, giving you a more sculpted behind and sexy, toned legs. Don’t be surprised if you hear someone whistle ZZ Tops “She’s Got Legs” as you walk on by.

The sequence begins with warming up the big muscle groups around the hips, thighs, core and back before we sit down to stretch. You’ll get more flexibility out of your practice if your body is nice and warmed up before stretching.
