How she started doing yogaFour years ago I was in Whistler, British Columbia, for a ski vacation, and there wasn't any snow. I happened upon a yoga studio and went to a Vinyasa Flow (power yoga) class. I loved it. It was the best workout I'd ever had.
What got her hookedI had just done an incredibly difficult pose called Wheel. I remember lying there and feeling like my heart was going to beat out of my chest and trying to catch my breath. I wanted to have a frustrated or negative thought, but the only thought that came was: "I am alive! My heart is beating, and I am strong, and I just did that pose."
A turning point in her lifeFor several years I was in a relationship that was unhealthy for both of us. I stayed in it to keep up appearances. Finally a friend told me to stop blaming everyone and everything else for why I wasn't happy. I took some very difficult steps to get the unhealthy things out of my life. That experience made me realize that being a true friend or a good boss or a good partner means helping someone achieve their best, even if it makes them uncomfortable or angry.
Words she lives by"This too shall pass." I just don't get too high on the highs or too low on the lows. Striving for perfection all the time makes every little thing that goes wrong seem like a big deal.
Her yoga lifeI mostly take Vinyasa Flow classes. It depends on the week I'm having, but I go at least three to five times.
Famous last wordsGetting the life you want is not about having some master plan you work diligently toward achieving. I listen to my instincts. I've found I had a lot of answers to a lot of my own questions.
